1930s When the new Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre was built in 2003 care was taken to preserve this particularly fine specimen of a Copper Beech tree. In 2005 the tree was estimated to be about 65 to 70 years old by the use of dendrochronology. This location was previously the site of the Department of Agriculture's Animal Pathology Station, but prior to that, in the 1930s, it housed what was known as "The Dominion Seed Branch"; it is possible that the tree was planted by someone working at that organization. Copper Beeches are not native and are quite unusual in this area. |
