![]() C.C. Avard House 40 York Street, Sackville |
1947 Clement Chandler Avard (1875-1956) was a businessman, publisher, politician and a very prominent figure in the Sackville community. He built this house in 1947 as a retirement home. After his death in 1956 the property was left to Mount Allison University and served as the residence of a number of professors. Since 1988 it has been the home of the York Street Children's Centre. The two-storey house is built of brick which is unusual for Sackville. The design probably came from a pattern book. There is a wide band of trim at the eaves level and above the front entrance. Because the building is used as a daycare centre a solid fence surrounds the property. |
This building is within the Town of Sackville Municipal Heritage Conservation Area A. |
